Visual storytelling

in documentary

Documentary? Isn’t that all just basically talking heads? Well, no - the documentary form goes back to the era of silent cinema, when there were no interviews whatsoever. Over a century later, we have technology in our pockets that can record sound and vision 24/7, but there are still many classic techniques that can help our films reach the audience. Using examples from student films, this session with writer, director, editor and lecturer John Burgan will explore why visual storytelling is a key building block of the very best documentary cinema & television.
